Promoting resilience is among the most valuable gifts a parent can offer their child. In essence, resilience is the capacity to turn challenges into opportunities. This presentation will focus on the communication techniques parents can employ to nurture a resilient mindset in their children so they feel better equipped to handle stress and feel more confident in the face of life's inevitable setbacks.
Miki Johnston is a Texas board certified Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Masters of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago. With nearly 30 years of experience, Miki's well established and respected private practice focuses on the treatment of teens, young adults, parents and women struggling with issues related to anxiety, depression, relationships, parent-child conflicts, stress management, and life transition issues. Miki's relatable style offers a realistic lens of hope and perspective that helps individuals of all ages cultivate the tools needed to navigate life's challenges.
Miki is a dynamic and engaging public speaker and has been featured on various podcasts and social media platforms. Her presentations focus on all issues related to adolescence, parenting, sexual health and mental health. She enjoys speaking in person and virtually to parent and student audiences of all sizes.
One of Miki's proudest porfessional accomplishments is the comprehensive human development and sexual health curriculum she compiled 7 years ago. Her curriculum is used in several Dallas public and private schools to educate students and parents on the sensitive topics surrounding adolescent sexual health.
Miki is a dedicated volunteer. She has served as an active member for the Child and Family Guidance Centers Board of Directors for 15 years as well as the Highland Park Independent School District Student Health Advisory Council and the HOPE Alliance Task Force.
Miki is the proud mother of 2 young adult daughters.
